Iran Compound Team wins silver at Archery World Cup
The Iranian Men’s Compound Team claimed a silver medal at the Archery World Cup 2015 – Stage 1 in Shanghai on Saturday.
The Iranian team, comprising Esmaeil Ebadi, Majid Gheidi and Yaser Amouei, suffered a narrow 234-233 defeat to Denmark.

Team Iran hadn’t qualified for a final since 2011.

Iran beat Singapore, Indonesia and India in the competition.

In the bronze medal play-off, India defeated France 234-230.

Earlier in the competitions, Iran’s Zahra Nemati, the Paralympic Champion archer – who collected gold at London 2012 and at last year’s Asian Para Games – was perhaps the women’s biggest achiever, though.

She set a new world record of 657 in the para archery recurve open category at her first ever Archery World Cup.

It collected her the 12th seed, too: A surefire win for a large Iranian contingent at this Asian stage of the international archery circuit.

“I was just very strong,” said Namati. “Self-confidence is probably my strongest asset as an archer. But I just came to Shanghai for a good experience, really.”
