OCA president Sheikh Ahmad backs Iran to take back IOC seat
TEHRAN - President of Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah said that Iran can take back its membership in the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The 66th Executive Board meeting of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has started in Tehran on Thursday under the chairmanship of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah.

“First of all, I would like to thank the Iranian Olympic Committee for its hospitality in beautiful city Tehran. Today, a total of 45 members of OCA have come here together to decide about progress of Asian countries,” Sheikh Ahmad said.

“Iran lost its seat on the IOC executive board after Mostafa Hashemi Taba left his job as the president of Iran Olympic Committee. Only  15 IOC members are leaders of their national Olympic committees and Iran can retrieve its seat in the coming years.

“Asia has lost some seats in the world and I hope we take back our memberships. Our priority definitely is taking back Iran’s seat,” the Kuwaiti said.

“Iranian sportsmen and sportswomen have participated in several competitions in the last year and I am hopeful they will compete in the more upcoming events. I think the country has made a noticeable progress in sports,” he added.
