Iran could host more water polo events: Gianni Lonzi
TEHRAN - FINA Technical Water Polo Committee Chairman Gianni Lonzi said that Iran has a chance of winning bids in the upcoming events.

Technical Committee Meeting of the 5th FINA World Men’s Water Polo Development Trophy held in Tehran’s Esteghlal Hotel on Saturday.

“FINA World Men’s Water Polo Development Trophy is a good opportunity to test Iran for hosting the events. Iran is going to improve and it’s time to change its mind,” Lonzi said.

“Iran has a chance of winning a bid to host FINA Water Polo World League as well. We receive the bids and will choose the best country at last,” the Italian said.

“Water polo is the oldest Olympic team sport. We want to continue our way to know if the sport needs to change,” the 1960 Olympic Games gold medal winner added.

“The competition can help the teams to improve the FINA rankings,” Lonzi stated.

The 5th FINA World Men’s Water Polo Development Trophy will be held in Tehran’s Shahid Shiroudi Stadium from May 24 to 29 in two groups of five teams.
Group A consists of Azerbaijan, Kuwait, Morocco, Malta and Uruguay.
Iran, Austria, Guatemala, Indonesia and Tunisia have been drawn in Group B.
