Iran’s Khademalsharieh 2nd at FIDE Women's Grand Prix
Iranian rising star Sara Khademalsharieh came second at the 2nd FIDE Women’s Grand-Prix.

She finished second with seven points behind Chinese chess player Ju Wenjun, emerged winner with after collecting 7,5/11 points in the dramatic finish.

GM Zhao Xue also from China finished in third place.

“I thought I would come sixth but I finished in second place,” Khademalsharieh, who was the lowest rated player in the tournament, said.

“I am pleased after coming second in the tournament and I think it’s a great honor for me,” she added.
The Women’s Grand Prix took place from February 11-23, 2016 in Iranian capital Tehran.

The event was a 12-player single round-robin tournament with participants: GM Humpy Koneru IND (2583), GM Ju Wenjun CHN (2558), GM Nana Dzagnidze GEO (2529), GM Pia Cramling SWE (2521), GM Dronavalli Harika IND (2511), GM Antoaneta Stefanova BUL (2509), GM Xue Zhao CHN (2506), GM Valentina Gunina RUS (2496), IM Nino Batsiashvili GEO (2485), GM Natalia Zhukova UKR (2484), WGM Natalija Pogonina RUS (2454), IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh IRI (2403).

The Grand Prix is a series of four tournaments held over two years (2015-16).

The overall winner gets the right to play a match for the Women’s World Championship.

The first event was held in Monte Carlo, Monaco from October 2 to 16.

The next tournaments are scheduled to be held in Borjomi (Georgia, April of 2016) and Chengdu (China, July of 2016).
