Iranian runner Abareghi secures Rio quota place
Mohammad Hossein Abareghi qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics after winning the gold medal in the 200 meters at the International Meeting XXV G Kosanov in Kazakhstan.

On Sunday, the Iranian athlete finished in the first place with a time of 20.47s. Abareghi also broke his own personal record in the event.

Iran’s Reza Ghasemi and Mehdi Zamani clocked 20.68 and 20.76 seconds respectively to earn silver and bronze medals.

Iran had already booked three places in the Rio.

Sprinter Hassan Taftian and Reza Ghasemi booked their spots at the Rio Olympic Games, clocking 10:10 and 10:14 in the 100m respectively.

Iranian woman shot putter Leila Rajabi also qualified for Olympics with a throw of 18:04 meters.

 The games in Kazakhstan are being held in memory of Soviet sportsman Gusman Kosanov, who died in 1990 at the age of 55. He competed mainly in the 100m races.
