Iranian shot putter Leyla Rajabi out of IAAF World Championships final
Iran’s Leyla Rajabi failed to qualify for the final round of the women’s shot put event at the 15th IAAF World Championships underway in Beijing, China.

Rajabi finished 9th in Group B with a throw of 17.04m, failing to make the 18.30m required to qualify for the final round.

“Unfortunately, I am suffering a hand injury. I would qualify for the final if I was fit. I did my best in the competition,” Rajabi said.

“From now on, I will work for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I believe that Olympics is the largest sports event in the world,” she added.

The group was topped by Germany’s Christina Scwanitz, who qualified in one attempt with a 19.39 throw. Hungarian Anita Marton came second with a throw of 18.85m, while Trinidad and Tobago’s Cleopatra Borel finished in third place with an 18.55m throw.

The World Championships in Athletics is an event organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Originally, it was planned to be held every four years, but this changed after the third edition in 1991, and it has since been run biennially.
