Iran runner-up at WABA Championship
The four West Asia teams that will advance to the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 have been confirmed, following the completion of the West Asia Basketball Association (WABA) Championship 2017 Qualifiers on Thursday evening.

As the final day of the tournament commenced, there was still one FIBA Asia Cup spot up for grabs between Iraq and Palestine. When the dust settled, Palestine were the ones shoved to the wayside as Iraq formalized their advancement to the year's biggest Asian basketball competition.

Iraq actually made short work of Palestine, leading by 14 after the first quarter, 22-8, and building on that dominance till the final buzzer to eventually win, 79-48. Naturalized player Kevin Galloway led the Iraqis with 22 points and 7 rebounds, while Jamal Abu-Shamala had 12 points for Palestine.

In the day's opener, Lebanon bookended their WABA 2017 championship run with a 78-64 triumph over Syria. Coach Joe Moujaes opted to rest key players Wael Arakji, Ali Haidar and Fadi El Khatib for this affair, but his wards were still able to win convincingly. Veteran campaigner Elie Rustom paced the Cedars with 26 points on the back of 4 triples, while Hani Adribi had 23 points and 13 rebounds for the losing side.

To close out the tournament, Iran ran roughshod over hosts Jordan, 82-59. Coach Mehran Hatami's squad left no doubt in this one, leading from start to finish to end their WABA 2017 campaign on an emphatic note. Five Iranians scored in double-figures, led by Behnam Yakhchali's 21 points and 5-of-7 three-point shooting. As for Jordan, Mahmoud Abdeen was the lone player to score in double-digits with 17.

Finally, the list of WABA teams to participate at the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 is:
